About Aida

Aida Dortants is a mixed media and oil painter whose work explores the layered connections between nature, culture, and spirituality. Born and raised in New York City, and living years in Puerto Rico Aida developed an early appreciation for the beauty and complexity of human expression—a sensibility that continues to guide her creative voice. She started painting later in life and discovered her calling.  What was once a a mediative practice, art is now her career.  A graduate of the Milan Art Institute, she learned how to paint oil using Old Master's technique of subtraction and color theory, making her work look more alive and vibrant.  She blends classical technique with intuitive mark-making to create pieces that are both contemplative and visually impactful.

Now based in Longwood, Florida, Aida paints from her home studio, a tranquil space surrounded by magnolia trees and overlooking a serene lake teeming with wildlife. The sanctuary’s ever-changing light, movement, and natural rhythms deeply influence her creative process. As Aida reflects, “Painting in my studio is surreal at times. I often look out the large windows and feel a wave of gratitude for all the beauty. I can’t help but be inspired.”

Through her art, Aida seeks to express the quiet harmony that unites people, animals, and the natural world—offering each viewer a moment of reflection and connection.

“Creation, for me, is an act of gratitude — a way to honor the stories, symbols, and silence that shape us.”

MEET THE ARTIST - Aida Dortants

I translate the world around me through layered colors, symbols, and marks—each one a fragment of thought and feeling. Some layers remain raw and hidden, others rise to the surface, luminous and revealed. My work explores the quiet harmony between nature, people, and animals, where every connection tells its own silent story.
